Scholarships for textile artists in 2019 - 2022

In 2021 / 2022, we award the last of our six scholarships for Nordic-Baltic textile artists - the call for applications is now open! This opportunity came via Nordic Culture Point. 

The scholarship includes:

  • Travel to and from Iceland (Blönduós), up to €660 per artist
  • Accommodation in Kvennaskólinn for two months
  • Exclusive access to the Textile Center's digital loom (Tc2) for one month (see also below)
  • Production / work stipend, € 1500 per artist per stay
  • Work stipend for workshop: up to €500 per artist per stay
  • Access to gallery space for group / solo exhibitions
  • Access to the facilities of the FabLab in nearby Sauðárkrókur & TextileLab in Blönduós (opening in May 2021) 

Dates available (choose the time best suited for you): 

  • July - August 2021 (exclusive access to the Tc2 in August) 
  • August - September (exclusive access to the Tc2 in August)
  • November - December 2021 (exclusive access to the TC2 in December)
  • December 2021 - January 2022 (exclusive access to the TC2 in December)
  • January 2022 - February 2022 (exclusive access to the TC2 in January & February)
  • February 2022 - March 2022 (exclusive access to the TC2 in February) 

Applicants must be working directly with textile/fibre arts, have a professional arts CV, be based in a Nordic country (Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Faroe Islands, Greenland) or Baltic state (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and know how to use a digital loom. Artists may present with a group and / or solo exhibition. Please make sure to reference the scholarship in your application. Applications concerned with textile innovation, public engagement, and exhibition plans will be highly regarded.

Please note that artists - regardless of where they are based in the world - can always apply for a regular residency. We accept applications from textile artists and scholars all year round.
